The photography module of the programme provides the framework in which a synthesis of creative process, practical technique and contextual discourse is applied to explore the technological, historical, philosophical, social, commercial and cultural aspects of the medium. The making of photographs is paramount, and students are guided through their concepts and practices by attending regular group critiques and receiving feedback on their work. Throughout the course of study, students are enabled to take full control of photographic image making technology: in first year by constructing pinhole cameras and using fully manual single lens reflex cameras; and subsequently by utilising state of the art digital cameras, industry-standard digital imaging software, large format pigment inkjet printing and professional photographic studio facilities, in order to produce resolved portfolios of work.
